Doesn't sound like you've ever had a typical scone. Like biscuits, scones are a type of very minorly worked cream dough, sometimes only cut right on the baking pan before going into the oven. They are usually consumed right from the oven within a short amount of time, or they go hard. I've seen places with orange scones on the menu, because they are able to cover the top with icing to extend the shelf life. But, in actuality, you'd enjoy the scone split open just like a biscuit, bite by bite with butter and jam, or if lucky, clotted cream. It's all a luxury because the dough was made with cream in the first place.
