Put those in a blender jar, pour in a beer. We're doing this first so the peppers can soak while we do the rest of the prep. If you don't have beer use beef stock or broth, tomato juice, or V8.

Dry peppers go in the blender with some cheap beer. Let this soak for a while so the peppers soften.

Dry peppers go in the blender jar. Add some beer. Why not water? Because water tastes of nothing. We want to add flavor, not dilute it.

Tomato juice, beef stock/broth, etc, are also good choices.

Peppers go in the blender with some beer. Leave that to sit for a while; meanwhile fire up your grill.

Put the dried peppers in a blender and add beer. Cheap beer is OK, I'm using MGD here.

Soak the dried ones in beer (or whatever other liquid you're using for your chili), then puree in the blender.

Peppers go in blender. Add some beer to help hydrate them.

Don't use water for chili. It has no flavor. You want to use something flavorful like beer or stock.
