for a super basic ghetto-mead this recipe served me well. I managed to get a pretty drinkable result out of it.

have you gotten to taste it yet or will you be letting it age a while?

I just finished 2 gallons of pic related and decided to test one of the bottles. It tasted like a dessert wine and was also warming, since it was about 15%

It's quite enjoyable even without aging, but aging in glass bottles at 13C/55F for at least 6 months makes it even better.
whatever you do though, don't age it in plastic and don't age it too hot. Room temp is ok, but not ideal, fridge is too cold

It also has a link to his blog with more detailed instructions, but lets assume the average person will try to go off the image along

Slightly Related, I've had this saved for ages now, but have never tried it, does anyone know if it works or not?

The bit that worries me is Hamish and Andy (Aus Comedians) attempted to brew their own beer, for their show last year, something went wrong in the fermentation process and it became poisonous to drink

Hey home-brewers, I'm looking into making apple pie "moonshine". The recipes says to add apple cider to moonshine or clear high proof liquor. Would it be worth it to make my own hard cider to add to it instead in place of store bought cider to make it higher ABV, or would that taste bad?

i know you guys get a lot of threads about easy ways to make alcohol. but im really trying to get a good batch of mead bottled before spring. and i had a few questions for more experienced brewers.

a) Is there a difference in quality between dry and sweet? I hear dry has less intense hangovers, but sweet is more enjoyable. Not sure if it's true

b) If I were to bottle it in December, would it be drinkable by summer?

c) Is there a way to get rid of that yeast sediment? I brewed a shit batch this summer, and there was a thick layer of sediment that was hard to filter our.

d) The batch this summer tasted like vinegar. It wasn't airtight, it wasn't pre-sanitized, and it was in a plastic water jug. Should I invest in a better jug and air lock? If so, glass or plastic?

e) Finally, if anyone has a recipe that they have tried and enjoyed, I would really appreciate it.

I followed this guide when I just started.
It's decent for beginners I guess.

Got a batch of mead nearing completion right now actually. A sweet mead with lots of blackcurrant in it. Should be decent enough.

So, I want to brew some alcohol. Either wine, or a beer of some kind, but I have a few questions for anyone who knows.
Firstly, how much space will I need? Does brewing create any smells or anything else I should know about?
How much equipment do I need? I know that you need some sort of air lock thing, but thats about the extent of my knowledge. Are there any good websites to instruct me?
