In Manhattan most hot dog stand customers are either:

1. Desperately hungry tourists that just wants to get filled up quickly (willing to spend a bit more for the convenience of a hot dog stand).

2. Stupid rich locals that live in one of those Manhattan condos/hotels that sees $6 as literally nothing.

This is why hot dog stands in Manhattan make a lot of money. This is also the reason why New York Shitty taxes the shit out of those carts and makes a lot of fees. I remember someone saying the vendor needs to pay ~$100K+ annually to the city to open a cart.

You got the wrong idea. Our tastes developed to make very calorie-rich foods tasty, not necessarily "unhealthy" foods. This preference was developed when these calorie-rich foods were scarce (e.g. meat, fats, carbs) so it made sense as it rewarded humans that worked for these foods. If plants were tasty to us humanity would've starved to death and became extinct a long time ago.

Now with an abundance of meat, this taste preference of ours are a bit outdated and awkward.

But mercury poisoning (having a huge spike of Mercury in a short time frame) is not the issue.

Heavy metals is hard to get rid of from the body and they gradually accumulate over time in places like the heart, lungs and especially the brain.

The gradual accumulation of heavy metals, such as lead and Mercury is the real disease-maker.
