Anyone know where to get king oscar Mediterranean mackerel? The Amazon listing is gone and all the other shops I see online have ridiculously expensive shipping. I want the 12-pack, shipping to california. Or in a store but I've never seen it in stores. I'm fucking desperate, they are my one true comfort food.

Amazon ran out of my go-to a while back, so I bought the "Ocean's" brand instead. Total trash, gave them a shitty 1-star review. They put "Olive" in the name yet use rapeseed oil, bunch of clowns.

Because mackerel is a far superior and tastier alternative, also things like beef chuck can be used for hundreds of dishes from birria to bourguignon. If you don't care about the toxicity then just eat tilapia, if you fry it up with cormeal its tasty. Even dave portnoy got mercury poisioning from canned tuna, the same will happen to you.

Most often yes. As far as pic related goes, it's basically tuna except more tender and is very much a blank slate, no fishy taste or smell. If you want a mediterranean/persian flavor, sprinkle sumac on it (already has olive oil). If you want it more Chinese, add chili oil/lao gan ma or chinese bbq powder (cumin + chili, it's for chuanr or xinjiang lamb skewers). If you want it more substantial, add more olives and sun-dried tomatoes. Or add it to a pasta. If you like the classic dipping sauces for gyoza or jiaozi (soy sauce/black vinegar/ maybe chili oil and garlic), add that. You can do whatever you want with them but yes, even just over rice they're good. Best way to explain it is to imagine that most people don't enjoy tuna plain, they need mayo or something to make it the right consistency or flavor, but with these you don't. All hail the King.

I've tried a variety of sardines and never been satisfied with them. This on the other hand I buy in cases. It has ruined me for other canned fish.

canned octopus in tomato sauce is incredibly good and better than most tins of sardines, but not all. not too keen on olive oil, because the octopus doesn't have enough flavor on its own and needs something to back it up

mackerel, now, is the one for me. eating pic related right now
