Like the other guy said, flair has some machines near that price range, but you also need a solid burr grinder. This isn't even factoring in the coffee, which you probably shouldn't cheap out on because espresso, especially when made with a manual machine without an automatic heating element, is too much effort to drink something you won't enjoy.

I grew up in Oklahoma. It's pretty normal there for people to get married to their high school sweethearts. People really encourage you to do it, so even though I was going to college on the east coast, I got engaged to the girl I went to high school with. She didn't get into school near me, so I hardly saw her except when we called. She never went out, had zero friends, and basically just sat around depressed and anxious in her dorm at a community college near our hometown.

Anyway, I came back for winter break my freshman year, and a week or two in, I decided I needed to break up with her. She was losing her temper with me in every conversation, she didn't want me to go out to see friends and family, she didn't want friends and family to come see me. All she wanted was to sit in her dorm, cry, and watch anime while I sat in the same room and didn't say anything. I tried getting her to see a therapist or talk to a doctor to get on antidepressants, and she got mad and threatened to kill herself. I couldn't take much more of this.

I decided I'd break up with her the last day I was there, but it all came crashing down on christmas eve. I wanted to go home to see my family, but she literally threatened to drive her car into oncoming traffic if I did that. So there we were, sitting in her empty dorm, eating Arby's, and watching Soul Eater. I ordered a Reuben, but they gave me a generic roast beef sandwich. The heater wasn't working. She had been crying so much that she had to go to the bathroom to throw up. While she was in the bathroom, I heard her say through tears "I can that you don't want me anymore and that you're looking for a way out," and I said "yeah, I can't do this anymore." She just started wailing, and I grabbed my stuff and drove to my parents' house. I finished the rest of my roast beef sandwich on the drive there.
