I can see the logic behind that, but the fact of the matter is that because the worms will eventually need to lay their eggs, they would in fact travel closer to the anus so that their life cycle could continue

This isn't really how it works because humans poop in toilets rather than out in the open where other animals can eat the poop infested vegetation, but putting a finger in your ass will mimic the sensation you get when you are pooping
The worms will sense the changes in your musculature and follow suit

That's basically how all gastrointestinal parasites work
