Chinese noodles fried with carrots (not a good idea), scallions, sugar, thai fish sauce, peanut oil, sliced up grass-fed beef (because I had some), and mushrooms.

...the noodles ended up being the best part, oddly. I expected the beef or the mushrooms to be that.

I'm new to cooking and I have a simple question. What purpose does the olive oil serve in the following recipe and is it necessary?

Recipe:
# 1 tsp chili powder
# 1/2 tsp paprika
# 1/2 tsp cumin
# 1/8 tsp garlic powder
# 1/8 tsp cinnamon
# 1/4 tsp salt
# Fresh ground black pepper
# 1 Tbsp creole mustard (or any spicy brown mustard)
# 1 Tbsp olive oil
