Charring peppers and tomatoes happens all the time. Or if you want to make naan. Or if you want to heat up tortillas over the flame. Or use aluminum cookware. Or, using any sort of wok or round bottom pan, or any earthenware.
Actually, just tilting the pot/pan (e.g. when basting) or moving it around a lot doesn't work well on an induction stovetop.
