War creates progress, occupation spreads ideas and structure to underdeveloped areas. Also, rape and abuse.

I wish someone would create one of these for eastern Europe. They benefited more from communism than Russia did. Schools, hospitals, and small governmental bodies popped up where there was formerly nothing. I'd never say communism works for modern society but it helped build a lot there.

I'm not going to lie about them taking over and building schools, hospitals, various facilities, setting up systems, etc being a better thing for the people than leaving the poor hellhole alone.

Sometimes it's better to be conquered even if your conquerors aren't the best people. Hell, Spain was pretty much saved by the Moors at one point.

>white'ifying areas causes pests
Hahaha wut? Your unsanitary conditions attracts pests. This is probably just more affluent people complaining about them than ever before.

Goddamned people that improve everything.

I don't care if conquerors often are assholes, they frequently fix wardsassback people until the natives scream 'we were better off, look at our culture!' that didn't exist.

It's because they very recently were one of the poorest countries in the world, and experience phenomenal growth in the latter half of the 20th century. Their food habits haven't caught up yet as culture is slow to change, so they still use food safety rules that would be useful in an undeveloped shithole country. It would not be wise to eat raw meat in Laos, and that's basically what Korea was like until very recently.

They basically have Japanese and United States occupation to thank for their development as well :^)
