Based advice. do you use a dutch oven on the stovetop? Seems like that would be a good way to go for deep frying. You could then keep the fat in a single pot in the garage refrigerator.
(You guys DO have a garage "Fridge right?
C'Mon it's NOT a rich thing, you can get a decent one for ~$100. --or a chest freezer.
Saving donut/fry fat in a dedicated dutch oven would seem to be the best way, and I can't think of a reason why a freezer wouldn't do as well,if not better.

>You put a weight on the lid and it keeps the cabbage submerged, right?
Yep..With a couple clean stones too sometimes.
I never got to use them.
the flood killed a couple dutch ovens too.(I may try to salvage them, but they look a bit dodgy in a few places)
:/

I have a sad story to tell...
>be me
>storage space in another state
>All the shit I've inherited, or was valuable, but NOBODY ELSE wanted.
>Storage space FLOODS about 3&½ feet up..
>about HALF my shit is ruined
>can't do shit about it...12&½ hours away..
>2 months pass
>SHit gets flooded AGAIN--this time in January during a freak WARM up and RAIN for 3 days.
>Flooded AGAIN--This time only 2 feet...\
>EVERYTHING FREEZES
>oOOOF!!
> 4 months later, SPRING. Floods AGAIN--2&½ feet up...
TL;DR: my heirloom cast iron Griswold dutch ovens were submerged, as were my large 80 year old salt glazed crocks(with boards,)
