We have tons of plain beans in a can. Usually 2-3 brands of each kind of bean. Though there's breed of french bean I forget the name of that's uncommon canned here.

This isn't communist Russia. What you're looking at is Baked Beans, a sugary side-dish made in a ton of different styles and now dominated by one market on the shelves. British colonists that lived on the east coast cooked them with sweeteners like molasses and it spread.

Pork and beans is less used but is thin tomato sauce with pork fat, probably more like what you're used to.
