Actually, you can push start an automatic just fine. I've done it in a parking lot with a Camry.. Start off in neutral then jam it into gear. Worked fine.

Having said that, I do miss my grandfather's VW bug (1968) that my drug addled sister crashed. I popped the clutch on that thing all the time and it's way easier.

My grandfather once had the ONE belt break and just used his date's (later my grandma) nylon stocking to replace it. Shit is just a glorified go-cart, really. But reliable as fuck and any idiot can fix them if needed. Granted you can't speed in them, though. And if you get his by a semi, you're totally fucked.
