Wrong. Italians rinse their mokapots with hot water which is enough to clean it and keep it in good shape. The myth that Italians don't clean is just a myth. You gain nothing from letting old coffee build up. In fact, what you actually get is a sour, spoiled brew.
What you're seeing in that video is somebody who has either repeatedly scrubbed their mokapot with something abrasive or put theirs in a dishwasher machine, which you're explicitly told not to do by the manufacturer. Pic related, a mokapot after one cycle through a dishwasher.
