Catalan here, the real alioli is nice but it very, VERY garlicky, you cannot use it as a substitude of mayo, the flavour and smell is too strong.
Even here the real alioli is prepared and eated very rarely, we use more offten the garlic mayo thing and call it alioli, people here are not autist about it.
