Is it cheaper and more versatile to be mostly vegan/vegetarian?

>go to groceries
>get beef because its the usual
>1lb of beef for 3 dollars
>see big ass portobello mushrooms package weighting 2lbs at 2 dollars
>realize i could be eating a cheaper meal just cooking the 'bellos instead of 2 measly fillets of beef everyday
>pork isnt much better, and only chicken/offal comes close as an alternative

Mushrooms. Blegh. Can't stand the things.
How anyone is able to stand putting these rubbery, dirt-flavoured FUNGUS in their mouth is beyond me. Disgusting.
