Couple sandwiches I threw together using Jimmy John's day old 50 cent bread

In Illinois (maybe only in Chicagoland or in the suburb I grw up in) we'd only call a something assembled with all canned stuff a "hot dish", and they weren't that popular, had a couple over various Thanksgivings. Casseroles with non canned stuff was way more popular, my neighbor growing up made this shredded beef, veggies, and some kind of garlic peppercorn sauce that was to die for, all on mashed potatoes. God damn I really do miss home.

Obviously as a Chicagolander I can't fully agree with these statements, but I always did enjoy a coney and jet's pizza (that's unfortunately the only Detroit pizza I've tried). Generally I think a lot of Illinoisians have positive views on Michigan in general. Way better relations when compared to Wisconsin, Missouri, or Indiana that's for sure

In certain parts, they eat a decent amount of lake Michigan fish up there I've been told, way more than other Midwestern states like Illinois for example. Even though it should be renamed Lake Chicago/Illinois, fish from lake Michigan isn't super popular here, and seafood in general is way less popular than red meat over here.
