I've been vegetarian for like a year and a half. Everyone knows.
I'm not the kind of person to go around boasting, "MEAT IS MURDER, YOU'RE A MURDERER, YOU SUCK". People only find out that I'm a vegetarian when we sit down for a meal and I've gotten everything but the meat. I don't complain. I don't request other people change to suit me. I'm perfectly happy with an order of fries at a burger place.
I guess my point is I'm quiet about my choice. I don't step on toes about it.
Anyways. Happy Thanksgiving. My husband and I just got back from dinner at the in laws.
We get there and when we go get dinner I realize that pretty much everything has bacon in it or on it. Except the potatoes. I'm shocked and really offended. They know I don't eat meat. They give me shit for it.
I just took my spot without any food, because something told me they put something in there too. My husband asks what's wrong and I just say I'm not hungry. Then I sat through four hours of watching everyone else eat. I felt so alone.
Sometime in between my MIL asks how we liked the potatoes. My husband said they were good. I didn't say anything. Then she starts telling us about how she put chicken broth in it.
I. fucking. Knew. It.
They put meat in everything. What the fuck? What did I do? I didn't say anything the whole time we were there. I let them feel smug for, what, tricking me? Making me not eat? What was the end goal?
My husband asked again an hour in why I wasn't eating. I told him it was because there was bacon in everything. He said I was being rude.
Fuck me, right?
