The precision and consistency of the sous-vide just proves how worthless of a field culinary arts are. Centuries of knowledge and wisdom can all be thrown out the window because now any Joe Schmoe with an iPhone can cook the perfect steak from the comfort of their couch. Similar to how the spirit and essence of the combustion engine was invalidated by Tesla, the spirit and essence of traditional cooking is now invalidated by a $35 Chinese heating rod.

Seriously I want to know whether these things are worth it or I should just stick to a bit of searing and an oven. Also if they are worth using are are the $50 dollar ones good or do I need to spend more? There are ones with wifi and bluetooth which are obvious gimmicks but I'm not sure what to look for as far as heating elements and wattage go.

Why do I not really see any Sous Vide threads on here? Just went over to a mates place where he had done a few steaks like this and holy fuck it was mind blowing. Definitely going to pick one up and use it for fucking everything.

Sous vide is just a 2018 trend. Had the immersion cooker not come out this year, nobody would even know what or how it's done. Don't act like it's anything more than a glorified way to poach shit.

I'm getting memed into buying a sous vide cooker. What are pros and cons of sous vide? Anyone here use it on a daily basis?
I'm pretty fine with how my steaks are done, but looking at all those sexy edge-to-edge medium-rare pieces in sous vide videos makes me want to try it. Not sure if I'm gonna cook anything else it it besides steaks, but I'm open to experimentation.

Can buy an immersion stick with vacuum sealer for about 100-ish bucks, which is way cheaper than I expected. I'm really tempted to fall for the meme here.
