>A really well-made (ie with real botanicals rather than 'flavors') root beer or birch beer is the way to go for me. I've also made my own root beer which turned out pretty damn delicious. Went pretty low on the sweetness, and used sarsaparilla, sassafras, vanilla beans, wintergreen, licorice root, star anise, burdock, cinnamon, and clove. I'd use a bit more anise next time, I like a good licorice kick to my root beer.
