most americans of german descent aren't actually amish though. in the dakotas, most of the german immigrants actually came from russia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germans_from_Russia

but people from all the german states emigrated to the midwest for various reasons

if you're only talking about americans, then yeah americans of german and nordic descent are basically the same thing because of the mixing. or rather the fact that they saw themselves as similar enough so they didn't view it as mixing. norwegian surnames are extremely common here, but if you dug through people's family history you'd find most of their ancestors were from germany and they just have a norwegian paternal line

not too inaccurate. we do season foods though, we just don't use an equal weight of spices to meat. onions, garlic, mustard, and paprika are probably the most common seasonings. but yeah, we're very meat and potatoes here. steak and pork chops are common. growing up, a side of veggies would be one of three things. corn, peas, or green beans

also lots of casseroles, dishes with ground beef, and tons of cheese

ah, you guys don't have breadsmith down there

it did come from shashlik, but we deep fry it here. it came from the germans living in russia/ukraine
