the thing about rural in the US is that there are a lot of dead zones with poor white trash living on family land that don't produce anything. that's what a lot of rural is.

even then, some of it is livestock and byproduct production and some of it is crop production.

here's a map of dairy cows in the US. this is where your good rural cheese is. but for some poor rural people, it's gonna be kraft singles from wal-mart when they make the 60 mile drive into town.
