I think movie theaters realize if they tried to search your bags or hassle you like an airport that people would stop going and they really want to sell you concessions - but they don't care that much at all if you bring your own food.

I can't go to a museum, most concert venues, board a flight, hell go into a national park visitor center without getting my backpack searched. I just avoid most places now. They don't give a fuck about your privacy or civil liberties.
