>sweet and savory
I lived in the UK from 1996 to 1999. If you go to a movie theater in the UK and order popcorn at the concession stand, the guy behind the counter, who wears a badge like he's a deputy Sheriff or a police officer or something, will say "do you want savory or sweet?" Americans don't really use the word "Savory" much. Savory = salty, Sweet = Sweet. In America they just give you the popcorn and you can put as much butter and salt on it as you want on it. In order to get "sweet" popcorn in the UK, you must obtain a license and demonstrate that you don't have diabetes.
