For me, it's Kinnie. A bitter orange soda from Malta. The Maltese seem to love bitter for some reason.

I'm in Northern Europe, granted, but I'm pretty sure I could find a plane ticket to Edinburgh for that money.
And I assume Irn Bru just comes out of the tap over there.

Why would you expect it to taste like cola?
I'm not a fan myself either. I don't dislike the flavour, but I think it's really bland.
If you want to be a foreign softdrink hipster I recommend you spend your next five bucks on a bottle of Kinnie. It's a fairly bitter take on the orange soda.
The Maltese seem to like bitter in general. Tastewise.

Actually, that's not entirely fair.
V. did make me interested enough in Malta that it made me go there on vacation. Lovely place. They seem to have a taste for bitter stuff; they have their own bitter coffee blends, and there's Kinnie of course.

Kinnie is the better orange soda, by the way.

I need to go back to Malta soon. It's an amazing place.
And they love bitter tastes for some reason.
