I never said it was, but japanese beef in general is better than USDA prime beef, which is better than what most people are buying/eating in the US (USDA Choice or Select).

Even the lowest quality graded consumer beef in japan is equivalent to or better than USDA prime.

Wagyu is always fattier than comparable American cattle.

The lowest grade of Wagyu sold in japan to consumers is generally A3. At most grocery stores or restaurants, you'll also have A4, or A5 grades available.

To compare with BMS grades, USDA prime is roughly BMS 1 or BMS 2. With very good quality American breeders capable of producing BMS 3 quality beef. Which is equal to the lowest BMS grade allowed to qualify for A3 grade in japan.

A4 and A5 go well beyond what USDA prime is.


So no, I don't mean specifically matsusaka, or kobe, or any other meme wagyu I'm just talking about full-blooded wagyu in general, which, at least with current breeding stock, will always be more marbled than western breeds.
