This reminds me a little bit of Hawaiian Loco Moco. Make a brown gravy, optional add mushrooms and carmelized onion. Serve a beef patty, or thin beef steak, over rice. Add sauce, mushrooms, onion, and top with an easy over or sunny side up egg.

Its very similar, but with rice instead of bread.

There was a restaurant on the north shore of Maui 10 years ago called "Moana Bakery and Cafe" that served a dish called Haole Moco that replaced the rice with a potato croquet and the egg was poached. This was done to make fun of the fancy white people (Haole) that would order it. FYI I ordered it all the time because its fucking delicious. I also ordered loco moco everywhere else because it is also fucking delicious.
