Here's something to get your neurons firing. All the (Hass) avocados you see in grocery stores are all descended from the same tree. In the 1920s, pic related was the main avocado. This one guy wanted to get in on this action and bought some random avocado seeds (seller sourced them from different, random places). Only one seed actually grew into a tree, but the guy couldn't get it to graft to a fuerte avocado branch so he considered cutting the tree down until someone told him to let it be. That tree ended up producing the avocados that you see in every grocery store today
