Most diners are oblivious to the use of jaccard tenderizers. These are unlike the brutal household meat mallets you may be familiar with. Food experts such as Nathan Myhrvold have proclaimed jaccard tenderized meat to be superior to untreated and traditionally tenderized meat with none of the traditional disadvantages. It is almost impossible to distinguish jaccard tenderized meat from meat which is naturally tender and delicious. Due to its subtle yet beneficial effects, the use of jaccard tenderizers has become nearly universal at steak houses.

Unfortunately this comes with a price and that price is food safety. What will you do when your favorite mall steakhouse is forced to raise prices to avoid backlash? Pay more and give up something else - perhaps the midweek trip to TGI Fridays to enjoy flourescent blended alcoholic treats? Or will this be the final straw that eliminates your strange belief that eating a large hunk of cooked brown meat on a plate with a bottle of nasty vanilla scented California wine is a kind of fine dining?

Couple of things:

1. DC is basically the South, and everyone is fat there because the South is America's retarded cousin who tried to commit suicide 150 years ago, failed, and now we have to carry it around like dead weight
2. Outback is not a real restaurant.
3. DC's restaurant scene isn't hopeless, but it's not a restaurant city at all. You really have to look around and get recommendations. Of course this is true anywhere but it's more so in DC because nearly anyone intelligent there with money is a transient from elsewhere, which means restaurants get rewarded for gloss over substance. It's not going to compare to a place like Sydney or Melbourne. You'd have to go to the West Coast or NYC for that kind of culture.

But in any case yeah, a lot of Americans get angry when the food arrives, and they can see the plate. It's quality over quantity.
