How do you get your pizza crust to "taste" like pizza crust?

Last week I tried my hand at making pizza myself. Everything turned out okay, and it was pretty good, but the crust didn't really taste like anything. It was just there. Like a platform for the ingredients rather than a part of the pizza. It didn't taste bad at all, and ended up coming out pretty well (especially since it was my first time baking something like that), but even if it didn't taste bad, it didn't taste all that good either. As in it just wasn't hitting that note that it was supposed to.
Do you guys have any tips on how to improve? I'm giving it another go tomorrow, and I'd like to make it better than last time.
