I really don't get why people get so upset about eating horse meat. Hell, I don't care if people eat cat or dog. They're all animals just like cattle or chicken. It's just as right or wrong.

German currently living in the US here.

I'm not trying to generalize here, obviously there are normal well-cultured people and "normal" restaurants over here in the US. But as anon already stated, they usually don't stick out of the crowd as much as the obnoxious rednecks. Anyway, what I noticed about some young Americans and some food places is that they don't know when to stop. Take a normal dish like a plain thin crust tomato mozarella pizza for example. If it's well done, it doesn't need any special adjustments because the ingredients make the dish perfectly enjoyable. However what usually happens at places like Applebees:

>increase size of pizza by a factor between 1.5 and 2.5
>inflate dough to give it a chewier and softer texture
>increase amount of cheese
>put a different kind of cheese and garlic on crust to make it more flavorful
>offer sauce to dip the pizza in (usually garlic cheese sauce or ranch dressing)

Sure, an americanized dish like that can be great from time to time if you don't overdo it. It's not what I'd call good cuisine though.

>tl;dr ranch dressing on everything
