Most restaurants have a 30% average food cost. 30% for the cost of the items in the dish, ~30% for labor, and the rest for overhead/profit. so generally speaking its 3x as cheap to make youre own version at home.

rarely do i ever get take out for things i do well on my own. burgers, grilled cheese, steaks, simple stuff like that. but some things I cant do well or I dont have all the specialized ingredients for or the time to make them. i.e. ramen, good curries, pizza, etc. I could make wings at home super cheap but i dont have a deep fryer and dealing with disposing of oil is a pain. so i order those too. etc, etc
