grocery prices are universally pretty bad, just no where near as bad as nunavut.
it's just kraft being greedy, they've lowered the quality as well.
other brands like presidents choice taste better and cost 0.88cad a box to krafts 1.65cad
when it can take 2 boxes for a quick lunch it adds up to the point you could make a real lunch
these prices are from nofrills, which is probably the best grocery store for prices generally.
even comparing the bulk pack there is no benefit to buying kd over pc
poverty is pretty common in canada, a lot of regions just simply only have minimum wage jobs, it's still quite livable but theres a lot of things that add up making it expensive to be canadian, even if you don't live in regions where you need to pay for the airplane fuel
in the winter logistics can be shut down entirely between the east and the west by getting a snow storm anywhere between Kenora and Calgary for a week causing all sorts of delays in both delivery and production
we're just very spread out over a lot of land, powerlines can go down for long periods of time too and relatively frequently in areas, which just further stapled a cheap shelf staple into canadian cupboards since all you need to do is boil a bit of water and even the most incapable boomers can manage that if they're living in a rural area
