Sort of? It's like wine. There's a decent jump from the cheapest stuff to the midprice stuff, then there's a small jump from the midprice to the very expensive. Most important thing, as long as you're not buying the cheapest stuff, is freshness and storage. It doesn't last forever. You want to use it up fairly quickly to maintain the flavour, and keep it out of sunlight and heat.

The cheap stuff is still fine for a lot of uses, but if you want something where the oil shines, like a balsamic and OO dressing, or eating bread with a little OO to dip it in, then the nice stuff is worth it. If you're just going to fry an egg or something, the cheap and midrange are still just fine. Don't let the faux connoisseurs fool you into thinking it's all swill.

Also, ymmv depending on the country you live in and their food regulations. Some places sell a blend of olive oil and vegetable oil as olive oil. That is absolute trash. Avoid at all costs. Google brands before you buy
