Rural whites are scary and creepy. Their "nice" is more of a passive-aggressive kind of nice. Behind your back they're plotting on how to make you squee like a pig. It's best to just fly over them if possible.

It's funny how people in rural places holes have this obsession with stockpiling ammo and sand bags and gas masks, because I guess the rural point of view is that any kind of community hardship is a hair-trigger to do what you've always wanted to do: invade your neighbor's home to kill them and feast upon their mutilated corpse.

Meanwhile here in NYC we've gone through a prepper SHTF wet dream a couple of times in the last 15 years and instead of roving zombie packs like in World War Z, people came together and helped one another. Not that I ever want to go through anything like 9/11 again but the community reaction was exactly the opposite of what you'd think, aside from a few rumors of arabs being attacked by vigilantes out in Queens or whatever.

Yet another reason why I am reluctant to leave this place even though it would be nice to have a yard where I can shoot at beer cans while naked and drunk.
