I don't know but they do not taste really that great.
It seems to me as something that was done to preserve larger influx of eggs instead of way to prepare them.
Something that was done out of necessity in the past because food wasting meant = starvation.
Today you can pickle eggs in fridge without problem, so I pass hard on this.
If you grew up with it, you probably acquired taste, but to someone trying it for first time in adulthood it is going to taste horrible.
