The hamburger is American. Yes, hamburg Germany may have put ground meat between a bread roll, and if they were feeling frisky they'd even add grilled onions. But the hamburger as it's known today with the toasted seasame bun, American cheese, lettuce, pickles, etc. etc. is distinctly American. Anyone who pretends like they seriously think of Germany when you say hamburger is a liar. This applies to most American foods too.
