Worked at whole foods for a long time, not anymore. AMA.
Things in the back of refrigerators are usually the freshest. Not always the case for dried/shelf stable and frozen goods if the stockers are lazy and don't rotate items properly.
Don't ever eat anything from the self serve venues like a hot bar or weighed grains/candy, etc. Someone's dirty piss and shit covered hands were in there.
Store brand is often just as good as more expensive brands because they're made by them. They literally make the same thing and put it in two different packages and sell one at a higher price than the other.
Shop around sales, use coupons, apps, etc to get discounts.
Make a shopping list and stick to it, don't go shopping hungry, etc. It's not fucking rocket science.
"local" is a lie and doesn't mean anything. Organic doesn't mean much either. It certainly doesn't mean healthier or better tasting.
There's a lot of fish fraud and there's a good chance that the fish you're paying for isn't exactly the fish you think it is.
Always check dates on more perishable things.
