There's like a dozen different kinds of American hotdogs and they're all very different. Chicago pizza is garbage, but their hotdog is top tier.

Dogs successfully made the jump from street food to diner food thanks to the advent of the footlong but will probably never get corrupted by "foodies" because hotdogs are "low class" by nature. I love a good effort hotdog with character, though. My local place in Florida has some good ones. We get a lot of transplant regional food down here and it's great.
