In a lot of ways these old aesthetics were tacky and even ugly. But I'll take them over modern gray cubes any day of the week because at least they were trying to be something. Nowadays the goal seems to be to keep everything as completely inoffensive as possible. Just exist without making any statement because that might upset someone.
