Because the US is still following laws laid down during the depression that were aimed at curbing food poisoning. Now technology and education in general has advanced enough that we no long need to follow such superfluous laws, but unfortunately the US is largely populated by humans and humans have a tendency to be idiots. As a casual observer of humans and their fucking stupid behavior I can only assume that these outdated laws are still followed because they only apply to foods sold over state lines. Within a state you may find numerous artisan cheesemongers who make cheese comparable to cheese produced in other parts of the world. Federal law prohibits the selling of food over state lines unless it meets very specific requirements.

You can find good cheese in the US, but it won't be some large recognizable name brand like Kraft. Now people outside the US don't know much about the artisan food culture here because the only US food they see is the garbage that passed the federal safety laws to ensure that your block of pseudo-cheese will be fresh and delicious long after the nukes have fallen and the super mutants have taken over.

TL;DR
We have better food than what we sell you internationally. Just like you wouldn't come to the US and expect to get the same food you have at home, you'd either find a local equivalent or something your nation felt was safe enough to ship to the US without spoilage or contamination.
