it's a combination of two things:
1. in many states alcohol sales are restricted for religious reasons (for example no sales on sunday or no sales after 5 pm)
2 .in many states wine is considered politically suspect (associated with catholics, french people, well traveled people, coastal people, you get the idea, just unamerican and scary people all around). so knowledge of wine, if it exists, would be suppressed. like you know those war movies where the spy is captured and told to field strip a sophisticated weapon while blindfolded, and he has to pretend he doesn't know how otherwise he'll be executed? it's like that but for beverages.

for all these reasons and more, selling contaminated wine at grocery stores is seen as normal and family-valuesish, etc

the midwest was a mistake

the best things to happen to america in the last 20 years are Ilhan Omar and Somali food. if there weren't so many awful wh*tes in the flyover states I'd honestly consider moving there, I love east africans

>flyovers pretending to know how the world works
chinese cultural stuff happens in malaysia. japanese cultural stuff happens in taiwan. korean cultural stuff happens in japan. people eat italian food in england. people speak english in germany. people speak arabic in france. people drink peruvian soda in ecuador. people follow american sports in cuba. there are lebbos in australia. there are catholics in india. there are jews in argentina.

see normal people have these things called "passports", and it allowed people from different backgrounds to visit different places, trade with other people from other places, stuff like that.

this isn't a trick to make you feel uncultured, it's how the real world works.

>I'm a free thinker: I have unique, intellectual beliefs like "YOU'RE NOT MY REAL DAD JESUS ISN'T REAL" and raving about christfags and religious maniacs shoving their values down my throat
Must suck to grow up in a red state where evolution is considered a controversial subject...

Anyway I had chicken for lunch so I guess that means I broke the rules. But dinner tonight is vegetarian, not by any conscious effort but it's how I eat a lot of the time anyway.

Because I was raised in an environment where everyone thought, ate, looked, and talked exactly like me. Anyone doing differently is likely mentally ill and doing it for attention.

This. Foreigners are so fucking gay, why can't we have normal food? Anyone who doesn't think, talk, act, look, or eat exactly like me is basically committing Pearl Harbor and 9/11 over and over again. Remember the Maine!

That place is like Ruth's Chris for corporate drones stuck in food deserts who want something slightly more exotic looking than Ruth's Chris but still, in essence, Ruth's Chris.

>ooh look the waiters are in quaint brazilian costume while they serve portions of salted cooked beef with a lot of new world red wine with reviews on the front label, and also the new capirinhas which are like mojitos but even more exotic but also still familiar and comforting just like the food

I wouldn't complain about getting dragged there, but the point is you go there when the options are limited, you have picky eaters with you, and they need to take American Express.
