>spending $400 instead of using a $15 press, mixing bowl and cast iron griddle
That's why you'll always be poor, kid.

You don't add lard when making corn tortillas. Even the instructions on Maseca nixtamalized corn flour say to use hot water. Flour tortillas oth use lard.

If you cook a lot of mexican food it's well worth it. The flavor and texture of a fresh tortilla is far superior.

Dude, corn tortillas are simple as shit. 2 cups of masa haina corn flour, 1.5 cups hot water. Mix until homogenous. Form into 1.8 oz balls and press or roll out. Put in preheated to medium cast iron skillet for 30 seconds, flip for 30 seconds , flip for another 30 seconds.

I've used this substituting lard for the shortening and they're very good but the fag that cooked them was probably "eww, a charred spot would immediately give me cancer" so they fucked that up. You definitely want small patches of charring. Like another anon said, it's a bitch to get a perfect circle manually, but that's just aesthetics, fuck it.

Corn tortillas are much simpler just 1 1/2 cups hot water to 2 cups masa and I have a press that is the size for tacos so I only use flour for burritos. Corn has better flavor, too.

Homemade corn tortillas are easy af. 2 cups maseca flour, 1.5 cups hot water. Mix until homogenized. Grab @1.8oz ball of dough, roll into a ball and press out in a cheap ass press lined with plastic. Peel off and slap into an iron skillet or griddle pre heated to medium. 30 seconds one side, 30 seconds another side. Wala. Flour tortillas use white flour, hot water lard, salt and baking powder, but are the same otherwise.

Based spic telling the truth - homemade corn has a greater depth of flavor in addition to containing no fat. Flour tortillas are good but loaded with lard. Having said that any typical gringo pendejo that buys packaged, stale corn or flour tortillas at their pig slop trough wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

The recipe I go by is 2 cups masa to 1.5 cups water. When you roll out the balls (I weigh them at 1.8 oz) keep them under plastic wrap so they don't dry out. I line my press with a plastic sandwich bag that I've slit the sides of. After pressing, I lift the top piece of plastic, turn over resting the pressed masa on my palm and peel back the other layer of plastic then just turn my hand over laying it into the pan. Complicated to explain, but there's a buttload of tube vids showing it.

Hard for me to tell if they're made with corn masa or white flour. For corn masa use 1.5 cups hot water to 2 cups masa and then use the press in my pic. Keep the balls covered with plastic wrap while flattening because they dry out quick.

For AP flour tortillas I use 1/2 cup of oil, preferably lard, and 1 cup very hot water to 3.5 cups flour and roll it out with a rolling pin because I'm usually making burritos with them.

I never have to add any extra flour to the corn and just use a light dusting when I roll out the AP ones. Sorry for the Imperial measurements if you're not from 'murrica, but that's all I have.

Like this, from fresh masa in an iron skillet. Water and masa, that's it. Iron skillet on medium, flip after 30 seconds, flip after another 30 seconds, flip for another 30 seconds. 1 1/2 cups of hot water to 2 cups of masa.

Don't you reckon if shitskins can do it, you can too?

Infinitely better. For the corn tortillas like my pic, make sure to get the Nixtamalized Masa. It has a much richer flavor than regular masa.

My press is smaller, so when I make flour tortillas for burritos I just use a rolling pin.

Both are big improvements in both taste and texture.

No. White people make their own, especially when they're poor and a 5 lb bag of good quality masa costs $2.50.

Can't speak for the other races because I don't associate with them.

We all love tacos, right? Making your own corn tortillas is the simplest thing on earth. And flavor BTFO corporate stale preservative plastic wrap cardboard.

2 cups Masa (I use Nixtamalized because more robust flavor)
1 1/2 cups hot water

Mix until paste forms. Roll into @ 1.8 oz balls. Press in tortilla press. Cook in iron heated to medium for 30 seconds, flip, cook another 30, flip and cook another 30.

Taco night tonight lads in support of the protesters of the "day without immigrants".
