It's not "ethical" but it's fine with me. I remember back when I had twitter the public defender's office had a twitter account and they'd post outrageous stuff brought by the DA, one of them involved a single mom who spent the night in jail for stealing a loaf of bread and the DA wanted to push for the maximum punishment allowed (whatever that was). Childhood malnutrition has lifetime repercussions, if a kid doesn't get adequate food they'll have like a 10 point drop in IQ and they go from a potential middle class person to a potential career criminal. A single parent working two part time jobs halfway across the city from each other because "job creators" don't want to pay health insurance or unemployment doesn't have time to hang out at the food pantry to beg. She should just steal.
