I know that whiskey gets most of its flavor (and color) from the barrels that it's stored in. Does aging the product in a commercial bottle improve the quality at all? Glass bottle with a corked stopper.

A small town whiskey distillery has opened near me. Less than a mile from my house in fact. They brew handmade liquor in batches of around 100 gallons. In a building that was historically a distillery but shut down for many years before the new owners opened their doors. It's my hometown so I want to support them by buying a bottle of their expensive reserve. Not particularly interested in drinking it now though, just keeping it as a souvenir for some sentimental occasion years later.
