This is pretty interesting to me, too. As a single, 26-year-old man, I'm not entirely sure how the hell to navigate weddings. I typically end up getting drunk early and excusing myself as soon as the major reception events are done. When the DJ actually starts playing dance/party music, I'm out of there ASAP.

There's usually close family there, but they all have significant others. I have no idea who to talk to other than immediately family/friends, and usually they know a hell of a lot more people than me and want to do the socializing rounds.

Maybe I should start finding excuses not to attend weddings. Feels like an obligation, rather than a privilege.

I would say that this is a good solution, but I even got completely plastered on red wine and vomited all over the place at a cousin's wedding, and I still get invited to every event, usually with a chiding "Careful of the open bar, Anon!"
