In England, cider is drunk mostly by people who think lager is yucky. This includes teenagers, women, or anybody else with a less developed palate.
British cider, particularly down here in the south west, is among the highest quality anywhere in the world. Whenever a lager company tries to break into the market, it's in their best interest to uphold whatever premium branding bullshit they're pedalling by making a cider that can compete with more than just shitty Strongbow and shitty shitty Bullmers.
