What are some popular and tasty variations of French Onion Soup that aren’t retarded?

I’ve experimented with apple cider (not vinegar), white and red wine, beef and chicken broth split, or just beef and lastly a smoked paprika and Worcestershire variation. What else is up there that fits well and isn’t bland?

The usual thyme and bay leaf applies to all of the above and I’d prefer to stick with wine vs sherry..

Excite me with your ideas pls.

Which sounds like a better pairing for French onion soup, vodka penne, or potatoes gratin?
I'm not really sure which I want make. On the one hand the gratin would be cooling during the time that I'd be broiling the French onion soup (I'm going to be making 10 or so bowls), but the penne vodka would likely be easier overall and wouldn't require the oven at all.

Why does food taste so much better when you're high?

Soup tastes unbelievable to me when I'm stoned. I lost my mind on some miso soup once and the ramen shop gave me a fucking discount because of my reaction.

Is it supposed to be served hot, or just warm?
Bread supposed to be soaked or crunchy?

Usually by time you get to eat the fucker the bread is soaked because the soup is to hot. Which is it?
