Anon's, What are your best French Onion Soup recipe?

I had one from a food blog of a french cooking historian who found the recipe from an old french restaurant that was almost entirely onion based. However I lost the bookmark.

Alright, my dudes.
>planning on having a "fuck it just make whatever" dinner with family
>really close family friend just had a sibling die
>think it would be a nice gesture to send him some food because his hobby is cooking
>asked around and he really likes french onion soup
>have made this before and I know the basics
-lots of butter
-properly caramelize the onions
-deglaze with red wine
-add beef broth
-bay leaves and fresh thyme
-season with salt and pepper
-french bread with smoked gruyere on the top/ broiled
Are there any weird hacks/tips that I can use to make this better?
