I came from a strict, Catholic family so there were like 'punishment meals' where some details would be changed to make them purposefully unpleasant. For example pancakes completely dry. No syrup or butter. You had to earn the right to eat better food and this could last weeks or months depending on the transgression.

I'm glad my parents are dead. What a duo of joyless husks. :D
